New for 2021, TRUE have released a retail skate with the same great fit, feel and performance they’re known for at the pro-custom level, all wrapped into a mid level price range. The TRUE TF9 Goal Skate features many high end features such as a one-piece boot construction, ultra comfortable liner, and superior fit that sets it apart from its competitors.
Skate Fit Profile
Given TRUE’s vast knowledge and experience in building custom skates, they looked at the lasts they built over the past 25 years to help compose a mold designed to fit most goalies.
Boot Construction/Stiffness/Level of Play
As previously mentioned, the TF9 uses a one-piece carbon fiber molded boot featuring technologies such as TRUEShell and Fibershield technologies which seamlessly wrap into the toe box eliminating any weak spots in the high impact areas. The TF9 are fairly stiff to start due to the combination of their one-piece construction and their tongue. After a few skates once the tongue breaks in, the skate becomes much more comfortable as it moves with you rather than fighting your movements.
Liner/Internal Padding
TRUE uses a liner similar to that seen in their pro skates. They call it their HydrOFoam liner which is an antimicrobial, moisture-wicking liner designed to keep your feet dry and comfortable while working to reduce that hockey smell that tends to develop over time. The HydrOFoam liner features a multi density foam construction making it super comfortable and thermoformable allowing it to provide superior comfort and fit.
Tongue
The Anatomical tongue seen on the TF9 uses a padded felt construction with a Flex Guard insert that provides superior lace bite protection. The low profile, asymmetrical design of the tongue makes it so that it fits in nicely with a wide variety of pads without binding up with the boot.
Insoles
TRUE uses a redesigned version of their insole that features a soft foam liner with plenty of ventilation holes in order to keep the goalie’s foot cool and comfortable in the skate no matter if it’s the first or fifth period.
Holders & Steel
After years of waiting, TRUE has finally made a goalie specific version of their Shift holder called the Shift Attack holder. It features the same BenchChange tool-less blade release as seen on the player holder. The steel seen on the TF9 is also brand new; a Shift Stainless 3mm blade comes stock and is a taller steel similar to the LS3G+ from Bauer. Optional offset 4mm Stainless and DLC black steel blades are available for goalies who want that thicker steel seen on traditional TRUE skates.
Graphics
The TF9 features an updated look for 2021 with a full exposed carbon heel and sidewall along with a black leather upper with blue and silver accents. A holographic side emblem sets the skate apart and gives it a more premium look.
